I’m really not old enough to grow up yet. What the hell are they thinking giving me not one, but two degrees??
This is my friend Elyssa.  She’s awesome.  And in this photo, she’s proudly displaying my one and only goal for the next two weeks.

Career of the day:

Professional pet photographer.

I’m going to use this summer to start building a photography business and hopefully that will pay the bills in the near future.

You can’t just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream; you’ve got to get out there and make it happen for yourself.

Hmm…I’ve always wanted to start making some extra money by teaching people how to use their cameras.  I always see parents with fancy expensive SLR cameras set on AUTO.  What is the point of an SLR when you don’t know how to use the manual functions?  You might as well by a point-and-shoot.  And what’s the point of digital when you don’t know how to do minor editing or even cropping?  Maybe someday I’ll start up that little business, or any of the other little ventures I’ve come up with.

I just went running on the trails by my house and it was amazing.  I’m still incredibly out of shape, but running today was easier than when I ran for the first time in a long time on Friday.  I like running outside because the trails are beautiful and there is no one to judge how slow I run, how soon I have to stop running and walk, and how it sounds like I’m going to choke and die with my asthma.

I think I got a slight runner’s high on the way home, which has never happened before.  I was driving from the trails to my house and thinking “I feel funny.  I probably shouldn’t be driving right now.”  I still feel pretty good :)

Yay for getting back in shape!

2009 Goals Revisited

Okay, I think I’m going to evaluate my progress on my 2009 goals at the beginning of every month.  I don’t know why I didn’t post my goals in January, so here they are for the first time.

I’m going to rate them from no progress (0) to perfect (5).

My goals for 2009, February evaluation:

  • Exercise regularly: 1
  • Become involved on campus (ballroom dance, gymnastics club, Campus Y, art, etc.): 3
  • Volunteer: 3
  • Keep in touch with Israel friends: 2
  • Rekindle old friendships and make new friendships: 2
  • Find a job/internship for the spring semester: 5!!  I found a job AND an internship!
  • Find a job/internship for after graduation: 1
  • Save money: 2
  • Call family more: 1
  • Keep in better touch with home friends: 1
  • Do more art: 2 (2000words.tumblr.com)
  • Do photography for ME: 3 (2000words again)
  • Rediscover passion for photo and art: 2 (still not taking a photo a day or doing other art)
  • Learn more Flash and design: 0
  • Do an awesome photo story for documentary class: 0.5
  • Write (blog, journal, etc.): 4 (yay tumblr!)

  • Freelance (photo, graphic design, Flash, web, etc.): 0
  • Spend less time on internet/computer (this really needs to happen): 1
  • Do homework more often and study: 0
  • Read more books: 2
  • Get adult wardrobe…or at least clothes that fit and aren’t falling apart: 3
  • Eat healthy: 2
  • Take bus more often than driving to campus: 4
  • Watch more movies: 1
  • Take glassblowing class: 0
  • Learn to knit: 0
  • Doubt myself and my abilities less: 3
  • Graduate: 0 (well, this will be a zero till May)
  • Remain in NC: 2
  • Learn to cook: 0
  • Get Phoenix and Grandpa memorial tattoos: 0
  • Keep car in good condition: 4
  • Become financially independent: 2 (this is a late 2009 goal)

Conclusion: I’m sucking at school and health, but doing really well in my professional life.  Everything else (social life, creativity, finances) is relatively the same as December/January.

In my life I’ve come to realize that you can’t depend upon other people for what you want and you can’t be scared to go out there and get it. You have to dream hard, wish big, and chase after your goals. Because no one else is going to do it for you. And even if things don’t work out, you’ll always be able to say you tried.
